History of Tampa Crossroads

Tampa Crossroads, Inc. began offering services in 1977 in Hillsborough County. Over time, we have grown into a full continuum of care offering treatment, housing, employment, Veteran-specific services and support to thousands of men and women in our community who are in need of developing the skills to assist them toward a healthier lifestyle. Tampa Crossroads has offered assistance, treatment and supportive services to hundreds of adults who have struggled with trauma and abuse, addictions, homelessness, and social problems.  All of our programs are staffed with caring and well trained staff making our holistic approach to good health very client-centered resulting in the greatest degree of success for those we assist.  During the intake process in all of our programs we identify strengths and weaknesses, taking into account physical, mental, employment, and social conditions in order to design an individualized plan that addresses the client’s needs in the most effective way.

For over thirty years we have operated both outpatient and residential treatment programs to address the needs of women and men who were at-risk due to their poor choices and women with children that were under-served in our community. Those adults with mental health and substance abuse problems and who were involved in the criminal justice system have discovered through our programming an opportunity to make healthier choices and to remain safe and stable.  In 2008 we developed the first gender sensitive housing for homeless female veterans becoming the first provider in the U.S. to offer this service to those who have served our country honorably. In 2009 we opened the first employment program in our community to assist homeless female veterans and veterans with families back to independence through sustainable employment. In 2011 we opened the first 18-unit affordable housing apartment homes built to the highest standards of Green Technology. Known as Eco-Oaks we have incorporated the latest technology to reduce tenant utility bills by over 80% monthly. We believe that at Eco-Oaks we have raised the bar for standards of affordable housing and removed the stigma associated with living in low-income housing. We are the first provider in Florida to achieve Platinum LEED status for affordable housing.

As we continue to look for service gaps and bring resources to the families that we serve, we hold our philosophy of respect for everyone as the highest standard we can achieve.
