With me being unemployed; my wife recovering from a car accident, and with a handicapped son, we were on the verge of becoming homeless with no means of getting out of my situation. I am a single father of four children ranging in ages from 8 to 14. I found myself in dire straits due to suddenly being unemployed after being laid off without notice. Finally, a veteran like myself asked if I had tried the VA. Since I hadn't and was at my wits end with that "nothing to lose" feeling I gave it a try thinking that since I didn't retire after 20 years, I didn't qualify for any assistance from the Veterans Administration. BOY WAS I WRONG ! I was sent to Tampa Crossroads. They immediately put me at ease by asking me to take a deep breath, relax and explain my situation. He called my landlord and STOPPED the eviction, through the program, my rent was caught up and my landlord was assured that he would miss no payment, they also obtained my electric account information and caught up the electric bill. I was so stressed out when I walked in that it took a minute for it to sink in that I was being helped and my kids and I could breathe a sigh of relief ! The program allowed me to be stress free as I searched the job market for new employment, I was also able to start and finish a college course, in Bail Bonds, that will allow me to start my own business in the future increasing my chances of being self-sufficient and sharply decreasing the chances that I will find myself in this type of situation again.  Thanks Tampa Crossroads!   R.J. 2012

 

Tampa crossroads is one of those organizations that are vital to the growth of our communities, as well as our veterans.  During a time when I didn’t know that there was any veteran support, a fellow veteran told me about Tampa Crossroads. The staff is very friendly, and they understand your situation, and will work with you to get you on the right track. Tampa Crossroads offers excellent guidance on how to gain employment with resume training, and interviewing skills. I feel like I’ve learned a lot. Through Tampa Crossroads, I am now Microsoft Word certified, and Ironically, I landed a job offering support for Microsoft Advertising. My quality of life has improved, and I cannot express how grateful I am for this wonderful program. I am eager to spread the word to all of our veterans that there is help out there. We are not alone. I would like to inform every U.S. veteran that there really are people out there that care for us. I am a living witness that a little perseverance and a little help can go a long way. I am now employed, have an extra skill under my belt, and loving life, thanks to the staff at Tampa Crossroads.
