About Eco Oaks
Eco Oaks was designed and built according to the strict standards of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® for Homes program, in order to provide homes that are healthy, safe, efficient and affordable.
From project inception, Tampa Crossroads, Architect SE Architecture, LLC, LEED Consultant REAL Building, consulting Engineers and Contractor Carlin Construction have incorporated green building principles throughout the project in order to help Eco Oaks exemplify a highly sustainable project, and to meet the requirements of LEED Certification.
About the U.S. Green Building Council
USGBC strives to integrate the principles and practices of social and economic justice within those of sustainable building – ensuring that low-income families will maintain access to decent, safe, and affordable housing, even as society’s standards for what is decent and safe continue to rise.
Why Green Building and LEED® Certification?
Green building offers opportunities to reduce energy and resource consumption, enabling lower utility costs and critical savings for owners, funding agencies and residents alike. Green developments are also designed to offer superior indoor air quality to protect residents’ health and reduce health-care costs, and often provide better access to public transit and local amenities, decreasing the financial burden of transportation. LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high performance green homes. Affordable housing accounts for over one third of all LEED for Homes certified units, with over 850 units generating more than 700,000 square feet of affordable housing.
The LEED® Certification Process
LEED for Homes certification promotes green building practices by challenging the design and build team to follow it’s guidelines to creating a sustainable home. Each certification category—Innovation and Design Process, Location and Linkages, Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality and Awareness and Education—features credits pertaining to specific strategies.
